VelPro allows for both structurally controlled and structurally independent velocity model generation, or a combination of the two techniques.

One can construct velocity models from stacking velocities and then calibrate them to checkshots (or other TD control). During this process, a water layer can be used to flatten the input velocities to water bottom so that smoothing occurs on more geologically reasonable "slices" and that well calibration occurs in the sediment layers only.

After a model is built, additional layers can be flooded (for example, salt) with either a constant velocity or one of several velocity equations (e.g. Vi=Vo+kT). In this way, geologic features that cause velocity anomalies can be mapped and accurately "replaced" in the existing model.

It is also possible to build a velocity model using a method of specifying each layer with a picked horizon and a velocity equation. VelPro also has the tools for computing best fit curves to the various equations from stacking velocities, well TD curves, and well tops combined with horizon times. In addition to the various model building/calibration/flooding tools, VelPro allows interactive QC and editing of all velocity data, whether well or seismic, to ensure data is loaded correctly and any problems can be corrected.

Data import can be accomplished using either the OpenSpirit links or flexible "paint the field" ascii file loaders. VelPro can read/write SEGY files for both seismic amplitudes and velocity data. Maps can be plotted to either CGM files or image files (e.g. jpg, gif), while most graphs and displays can be written to image files.

 Other capabilities:

  • Conversion of Sonics to Checkshots
  •  Full editing capabilites of all data types
  • View volumes as slices or profile (with seismic overlay)
  • Pore pressure prediction module (curves and volumes)
  • TD conversion of horizons, grids, SEGY, and flat files
  • Well pick calibration of depth horizons
  • Full gridding and grid math capabilities
  • Conversion of legacy Seisbase 3 projects to VelPro
